Sharks, and how we can protect them

Do you think sharks are killers? If so, I hope this article will change your mind. Sharks are normally very gentle and only attack when threatened. Did you know that the whale shark can be as long as three school buses but only eats a microscopic animal called plankton? Well, that’s what it does. Did you know that the basking and mega mouth sharks are both really huge? Well, guess what? They only eat plankton! I know of a shark species that will ONLY hunt at night. Yup, ONLY at night. It’s called the black-tip reef shark. Did you know that only about 7 humans are killed by sharks world wide per year? Did you also know that over 1000 sharks are being killed by humans worldwide? Yup, that’s right, 1000 with three zeros. And don’t forget it’s OVER 1000 sharks being killed by humans. I’m not trying to make you feel bad but that’s just the truth. The reason that I am telling you this is because if you know more about the problem than you can start helping. Now here are some ways to help:

1. Tell everyone you know about what I have just told you.

2. Make sure word is spread that fishermen need to keep divers on board to dive down and cut nets free from the bottom if they get caught instead of cutting them loose from the top which dumps the net into the ocean, not only endangering sharks but many other marine animals.

I hope that this article has helped you and will help many more people to understand more about this problem and more about how to fix this.
